IWC Schaffhausen
IWC launches the Engineer Automatic 42 crafted in black ceramic
For the first time, the brand interprets Gérald Genta's integrated bracelet design entirely in ceramic
IWC Schaffhausen opens a new chapter for its classic Ingenieur collection by reproducing Gérald Genta’s integrated bracelet design entirely in ceramic. The watch case and bracelet made of black zirconium oxide ceramic are not only hard and scratch-resistant but also lightweight, which contributes to a comfortable wearing experience.
Ceramic processing has always been challenging, requiring diamond tools to carve fine details. IWC's watchmakers have given the black ceramic a unique play of light and shadow through a combination of satin finishing, sandblasting, and polishing, making the watch radiate an enchanting luster from different angles. The black "grid" dial complements the classic design of the Ingenieur series, paired with hands and hour markers coated with Super-LumiNova®, ensuring clear readability at any time of day or night.
Beyond its robust appearance and craftsmanship, the watch is equipped with IWC’s in-house 82110 caliber. The Pellaton automatic winding system converts subtle movements into energy, providing a power reserve of up to 60 hours. Through the light-colored sapphire glass back, the precision workings of the movement can be admired, allowing the all-black design to showcase its extraordinary charm discreetly.
