Jaeger-LeCoultre pays tribute to traditional Chinese culture with the launch of a new Métiers d'Art series, "Tribute to Traditional Symbols."
The design of the "Sea and Mountain" timepiece aims to present a visual depth effect against a single-color background. Depending on the model, the dial is crafted in 18K white gold or pink gold, and the monolithic dial is carved with water ripples, adorned with blue enamel and set with diamonds to represent towering mountains. Jaeger-LeCoultre's master craftsmen employ a range of techniques to endow the "Sea and Mountain" with a subtle yet highly recognizable aesthetic style.
The gold dial is divided into three parts. The first part creates the backdrop of the sea, symbolized by layers of deep blue Grand Feu enamel fired at high temperatures. The subsequent steps patiently carve out rolling waves on the enamel, followed by Jaeger-LeCoultre's master craftsmen meticulously filling these water ripple grooves with white enamel. Ultimately, this extremely thin enamel casts exquisite shadow effects on the delicately textured background, creating a scene of surging waves.
The second part depicts the sea tides on the mountains; each thread of seawater is crafted with hand-set brilliant-cut diamonds, evoking the image of a bright moonlight, which is also the inspiration for the name of this piece. Meanwhile, the third part adds surging waves to the main body of the mountains on the dial; carefully engraved gold inlays adorned with enamel decorations highlight the depth of the landscape, while the texture of the copper plate engraving lends a beautiful perspective effect to this landscape painting.
