Exhibition Introduction:
"Taiwan Landscape" is a massive ink painting completed by Professor Hsu Wen-jung, born in Changhua, Taiwan, over a period of four years (1992-1996). Spanning 320 meters in length and 1.8 meters in height, it holds the world record for the longest Chinese ink painting. The artwork depicts Taiwan's natural landscapes, folk customs, and cultural developments, earning it the reputation as the modern Taiwanese version of the "Along the River During the Qingming Festival".
Science and culture convergence collaborated with artist Hsu Wen-jung to digitally translate and reproduce "Taiwan Landscape", showcasing Taiwan's natural scenery and traditional festivals, creating an immersive experience rich in cultural and artistic significance, suitable for family viewing.
The exhibition is divided into three main themes. In the first movement, "Taiwan Landscape" was transformed into a high-resolution digital file by scanning and then combined with a script of immersive images, re-recorded ambient music, and nature sound effects. Through 3D animation, special effects VFX, and interactive technology, it was synthesized into a new digital image, transforming the static landscape painting into a dynamic and projected composition, presenting a new visual of Taiwan's natural and cultural magnificence.
In the second movement, "Ink Rhythm" symbolizes the natural flow of ink strokes and compositions with infinite tension. This work originated from Hsu Wen-jung's deep understanding of the importance of indigenous culture during his overseas residency. After returning to Taiwan, he spent four years visiting mountains, rivers, and human culture, faithfully recording the diverse features of Taiwan with his brush. The painting not only shows the alternation of day and night and the change of seasons, but also gives the image a sense of fluidity. Through immersive technology and interactive projection, including 3D modeling, floor animation, particle effects, and other animation design techniques, combined with surrounding sound design, this magnificent ink scroll was transformed into a situational experience, allowing the audience to experience six major landmarks: Siaodu, Lighthouse, Presidential Office Building of the Republic of China, Qingshan, Yangmingshan, National Palace Museum, Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, and Dadaocheng Dihua Street. At the end of the performance, a bird's-eye view map linked the six landmarks, projecting the cultural memory of Taiwanese landscapes, echoing the historical significance of "Taiwan Landscape".
In the third movement, the XR immersive journey allowed visitors to don Meta Quest 3 VR glasses and immerse themselves in the shimmering Sun Moon Lake, feel the crystal-clear surface of the lake, stand in front of the thunderous Shifen Waterfall, ride through misty mountains on a mining car, and arrive at the mountain town of Jiufen, strolling through its ancient streets, feeling the passage of time and the sedimentation of the years. XR technology allowed the audience to be truly present! A 360-degree panoramic view combined with high-quality images delicately presents the beauty of Taiwan's nature and culture. With interactive experiences and free exploration, visitors can feel different landscapes and stories, accompanied by knowledgeable influencers and professional guides to experience the historical culture and the charm of the passage of time in Taiwan. This exhibition also featured famous actor Tu Shan-tsung and stage actor Liao Yuan-ching in a crossover performance. Tu Shan-tsung's digital 3D image was created through digital scanning and 3D modeling, a rare collaboration in his acting career.
The exhibition was produced by the "Light Point Jishu" art animation special effects team, responsible for immersive image production, and the "Leap New Media" image interaction team, responsible for interactive special effects production. By scanning "Taiwan Landscape" into high-resolution digital files and translating them into immersive image scripts with grandeur, re-recording ambient music and natural sound effects, and combining 3D animation with special effects VFX and interactive technology, a new digital image was created to transform the static landscape painting into a dynamic and projected composition, presenting a new visual of Taiwan's natural and cultural magnificence. Integrating full immersive projection, contemporary ink animation, and XR interactive experiences in three movements, it explores the depth of Taiwan's beauty through the interweaving of light and shadow, taking you on a cultural journey across time and space, immersing you in Taiwan's magnificent scenery and cultural memories, and allowing you to experience the breathtaking fusion of technology and art!
